EducaMadrid
MOOC Report by Maria Alaez
This activity was created to introduce the sports culture in the United States to students in primary school in Madrid. During this activities students were given a presentation about the sport and the culture, we worked through some examples of popular events, and then they created invitations to their own holiday sport watch party.

My presentation served to:
Broaden Cultural Knowledge
Sports are a big part of American life and identity.
By learning about them, students can get a deeper understanding of American culture and values.
Build Better Communication Skills
American sports often come up in conversations worldwide.
Knowing the basics lets students engage in discussions with people from different countries.
Enjoy International Events
Events like the Super Bowl (football), NBA Finals (basketball), and World Series (baseball) are watched by millions.
Understanding these events makes them more enjoyable to watch and discuss.
Improve English Language Skills
Learning the rules, commentary, and sports news in English can help students improve their language skills.
They’ll get to learn sports-related vocabulary and expressions used in American media.
Creating these invitations as part of the activity helped students practice their writting skills, vocabulary, and grammar structures.
What I hope students gain from this:
Fun and Engaging Learning Experience
Sports are exciting! Learning about them is often more dynamic and interactive than traditional lessons.
It’s a fun way to get involved with new ideas and cultures!
Make Global Connections
Understanding American sports helps students connect with others internationally, especially when traveling or making friends from the U.S.
