New Year in Madrid

January 2025

I am experiencing seasons for the first time! It has been a great time for me so far, I have gotten organized and learned a lot more about myself. I spent the holidays in Europe and am now starting this new year off in a way I am proud of. The lights in the city center were beautiful, all of the buildings were decorated and lights hung across roads. It was a very different holiday season than I am used to, but it is good to experience new things.

Getting organized and being productive felt like a daunting task as I had to work new goals into my already so new life. After a couple of stressers, I workshoped a routine that fits with my job as an English teacher with my dual Masters program, and the marathon prep. Sometimes I get nervous, but I remind myself that I am lucky to be busy with such positive things. After all, we need to invest in ourselves and gain things that cannot be taken away!

In terms of the milestones I promised myself:

Moving to Madrid

October 2024

Why am I walking so fast?

On one of my first exploratory walks around Madird I noticed I was walking so much faster than everyone around me. I am used to always being in a rush and not having time to simply analyze the world around me. I have loved getting to walk without a certain destination in mind. Getting to stop at any cute cafe I see, enjoying any special views, and taking a break whenever I want to rest and sit down.

I am working at a school as an English teacher. I was assigned younger students perfectly because I worked as a private tutor for years to elementary and middle schoolers. The kids have been kind and warm, and the teachers are very welcoming and informative. I know I can be happy here! In addition to working at the school, I offer private tutoring sessions for English practice after school.

I am grateful to speak Spanish and improve my language level. It has helped me complete basic tasks around the city as I am setting up my life here. I still have many things to organize but everyone tells me that it is normal to feel overwhelmed the first couple of weeks as I adapt to my new environment.

Training for the marathon has been a bit tough because I am used to living at 0 feet of elevation in Florida, and here I am at 2,300 feet of elevation. This makes it harder to breathe when I run outside, and the cold air is not helping as well. Little by little, by body will become more comfortable with these challenging aspects and I will get stronger overall!
